We are pleased to announce that Brentwood Bay Resort & Spa has been nominated by the World Travel Awards as North America’s Leading Green Hotel. The World Travel Awards acknowledges excellence in the world's travel and tourism industry through votes cast by 183,000 travel professionals. These include, our guests, travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organizations in over 160 countries across the globe.
Environmental sustainability is built into the very design of the building. Processes such as state of the art technology, insulation and window systems enable a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as well, there are significant reductions in water consumption from low flow plumbing and irrigation systems. The heating and air-conditioning systems utilize energy efficient “heat-pump” and “heat-exchanger” systems that transfer energy where it is needed. A custom designed “bio-filtration” pond captures runoff of rainwater while enhancing the immediate marine habitat. Furthermore, the resort was built on an existing hotel site utilizing existing land and infrastructure. By building on this pre-existing site and protecting the shoreline in its natural state, we were able to minimize our impact on the surrounding ecological systems.
Our newly-developed OceanVillas Oceanfront Condominium project next door was designed and built to achieve the "LEED for Homes” Gold Certification for energy efficient and green building practices for a sustainable future. We are also proud to display a Green Key rating of 4 keys. A hotel with a 4 Green Key rating is described as demonstrating “national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide ranging policies and practices.” Brentwood Bay Resort & Spa has also been selected as a top Environmental Resort by Conde Nast Traveler and won the prestigious Tourism Victoria Environmental Award in the corporate category.
